Most strings are wound around a little "ball" on one end that secures the string to the guitar bridge. Hence, the term "ball-end strings". Fender has the only string that uses a "bullet-end", which is a small piece of brass soldered or welded (not sure how they do it) to the string end. The bullet-end is designed to fit precisely in the tremolo block to ensure that the string returns to the same spot even after heavy tremolo use.
