 Traditionally flatwound bass strings produce a deep, bassy, somewhat percussive tone without much high end. Dean Markley precision wound FlatWoundÖ Bass strings are smooth sounding with an improved high end.
The high end improvement is accomplished by cross winding the underlying wraps. While wound guitar strings exist of a core and a wrap wire, a bass string may have a core and several wrap wires in order to create the larger diameter string required for bass. The cross winding creates an improved presence on the strings, especially the A and E strings, which need it the most. The final, outer cover is a highly polished, highly magnetic stainless steel flat wrap.
