Contact Core or Taper Core

Click to enlargeContact Core or Taper CoreGHS uses this process in which the winding stops short of the ball end of the string, before it passes over the bridge saddle. The core wire is thus allowed to contact the bridge saddle directly.

This produces an extremely bright wound string while the sound of the plain strings is, of course, unaffected.

While not a prevalent process in guitar strings, this technique is used in several sets of bass strings we carry in our catalog. In bass string terminology, most manufacturers refer to it as taper core.
